This is what I believe is the purpose of the Essay 3
Assignment. This assignment seems to be engineered to summarize the skills we
have acquired from the previous to assignments. We were first taught what
exactly logos, pathos, and ethos were. We were taught several other literary
tools but these seemed to have special focus which told me they would be more relevant
to future material. This is most likely because identifying these elements in a
piece is most crucial in determining the creditability of the information the
author is presenting us. Before we can store and begin regurgitating various facts,
we must first be sure of their source and that source’s integrity. We had to
use this when we had to identify and analyze these skills in ourselves and
decide where we needed improvement and what we had a grasp of. Now we will use
this knowledge to gain our own repertoire of information on a subject and using
the other tools I neglected to mention before present or own paper that
contains coherent and organized data in our own words. This will give us the
opportunity to get a road test of all these things we have learned and apply
them to a real world scenario. I personally now have a better understanding of
what source will yield good, reliable news and what sources could be described
as opinionated. This is going to help me write a more scholarly looking essay
which has proven difficulty for me in the past. That is the third Essay
Assignment to the best of my understanding.
Scott, I love that you recognize how this assignment builds on the skills we've already learned and practiced in our previous assignments, readings, etc. Great observations about how technology affects and influences us. I agree that Terminator or Matrix type scenarios aren't likely, but I'm more concerned about the uncritical use of technology causing people to loose interpersonal connections without necessarily realizing it. And that's why I encourage the excellent critical thinking you've displayed!
